CONTRAST

TOTALITY
World in transition
Quirine Racké & Helena Muskens
Exploring themes of trauma, absurdism, release. With a focus on composition, brutalism, softness, contrast, textures, color combinations, coping mechanisms and tactile media.
I
Going into the depth of this core-seeking coping mechanism of mine, my work is a deeply personal exploration of human experience, driven by my belief that nothing happens by chance. I dive into the connections between “what is” and “what was,” uncovering the threads that tie together human flaws, coping mechanisms, and the beauty that can be found in pain. I’m inspired by art history and fascinated by contrasts. Through my art, I share my interpretation of the world: fragmented, raw, yet deeply connected.
Everything is in contrast, emotion
versus perspective,
the beauty in pain, the social constructs and loneliness.
It may be my interpretation of everything, everywhere, all at once. I want to create a piece that resonates with my hypomania, without ever explicitly naming that I’m dealing with bipolar disorder and complex PTSD. I only want to show the side of me that is “Thalos Sacritas” a multilayered character taking shape, morphing, learning, and adapting to each new day, with a passion and drive to make the day my own.
II
However this work may unfold, I feel a clear and undeniable urge to pursue this project. I would love to translate this contrast-seeking perspective and share it openly with the public. My aim is to reach those who feel drawn to explore the deeper, often painful truths that lie soft and still beneath the surface of the automatic pilot of everyday life.
I have a strong desire to present a perspective on life that emphasizes pure determination in becoming an individual, without placing focus on naming or labeling.
III
It will not include any form of trivialisation.
It will be as abstract as emotions feel.
